What up everybody, so glad you’re here
It’s Chad’io wit’ the flow back in your ear
This ain’t the fantastic voyage, but I’m still on a mission,
To see if I can get your attention
Now I want to drop some information
Just a little additive to your education
I live my life by the code of the fish
49cc auger, 18s filleted fo yo dish
When I’m on the ‘Eyes, you gotta feel my beat, so
Throw your hands up if you’re down with the C,
HAD, I, O with the flow
I’m lookin’ for the party, so betta fisha know
1 2 3, it’s like A B C
If fishing didn’t pay, I’d jig for free
Slide, slide, but that’s that past
I got sumpin’ brand new for the masses
1 2 3 4 get your Sculpzilla on the floor
Gotta Gotta get up to get down (jig)
Gotta Gotta get up to get down (jig)
_______________
Maybe someday I’ll put together an actual music video for that. In the meantime, I just wanted to drop you a quick, ice fishing post.
Earlier this month I was out on Red Lake chasing ‘Eyes. Jake and I met some buddies who had already been fishing the day before. Consistent bites were mostly coming from fixed line rigs (rattle reels and tip ups) right off the bottom. To pass time, along with polishing off a case or two or three, the boys dialed in a color for jigging: pink.
So while Jake was tying his line with a pink buckshot, I pulled out a streamer from my fly box.
WHAT THE HELL IS THAT…A RAT?!?
Something like that…you know…just mixing it up.
MIX IT UP?! Man, it’s never easy for you…
(7 minutes of jigging later)
YUP!!!…(as I set the hook)…It’s easier than easy!!!…(as I pull it out of the ice hole)…HAHAAAAA!!!! The Sculpzilla draws first blood!!
And why shouldn’t it? Just because it’s a streamer doesn’t mean it can’t be used through the ice. Certain patterns mimic fish and other edibles that game fish can’t resist; the Sculpzilla, in particular, is supposed to mimic a sculpin – a small fish that forages along the bottom of lakes and other various bodies of water. Since we’re fishing off the bottom, why not give it a shot? Now do me a favor and
1 2 3 4 Get Your Sculpzilla On The Floor
Gotta Gotta get up to get down (jig)
Gotta Gotta get up to get down (jig)
(In other words, don’t forget about packing your flies when you head out on the ice)
Don’t limit your fly fishing flies to just open water. They can be equally as effective, if not better, than the standard presentations through the ice.
